ABOUT ME

My name is Janet and I hold a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Visual Art. I qualified as a secondary school teacher and since then have led art classes and workshops for all ages from kids to adults. I use a variety of media including acrylic paint, clay, paper and assemblage.

My classes generally involve step by step instruction. In the Process versus Product debate I fall somewhere in the middle. (Process art encourages an individual to experiment, explore and experience materials without worrying about the end product.  Product art values producing a nice result rather than experimenting individually.) I find that step by step instruction often speeds up the process of discovery and avoids a beginner giving up if they produce what they may see as a 'failure'.  On the other hand I love to see the way each person brings their individual perspective and interpretations into their work. And their are no failures in art, just experiments and learning experiences!
